Anthony Gregory Brown (born 21 November 1961) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-MD 4) from 3 January 2017 to 3 January 2023, succeeding Donna Edwards and preceding Glenn Ivey. He previously served as Lieutenant Governor of Maryland from 17 January 2007 to 21 January 2015, succeeding Michael Steele and preceding Boyd Rutherford.
Biography[]
Anthony Gregory Brown was born in Huntington, New York in 1961, and he enrolled in the ROTC while studying at MIT. He entered the US Army in 1984 as a Second Lieutenant, rising to the rank of Colonel and being decorated for his service in the Iraq War. He also became a lawyer, and he served in the Maryland House of Delegates from 1999 to 2007, when he became Lieutenant Governor under Martin O'Malley. He led the administration's efforts to increase taxes, create public-private partnerships, and strengthened the Democratic Party in the Chesapeake Bay area during the 2008 presidential election. In 2014, he was defeated by Republican Party candidate Larry Hogan during the Maryland gubernatorial election, but he was elected to the US House of Representatives in 2016. He retired in 2022 to run for Attorney General of Maryland.
