Ante Jelavic

Ante Jelavic (21 August 1963-) was President of Bosnia and Herzegovina from 15 June 1999 to 14 February 2000, succeeding Zivko Radisic and preceding Alija Izetbegovic. He was a member of the Croat HDZ BiH party.

Biography[]

Ante Jelavic was born in Podprolog, SR Croatia, SFR Yugoslavia in 1963, and he became involved with Croat minority politics in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the 1990s. In 1998, he became President of the Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and he served as President of Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1999 to 2000. After he called for a separate governing entity for the Croat minority, he was removed from the presidency, and he was later charged with corruption and became a fugitive.
