
Anson Peaslee Morrill (10 June 1803-5 July 1887) was Governor of Maine from 3 January 1855 to 2 January 1856 (succeeding William G. Crosby and preceding Samuel Wells) and a member of the US House of Representatives (R-ME 4) from 4 March 1861 to 3 March 1863 (succeeding Freeman H. Morse and preceding John H. Rice).
Biography[]
Anson Peaslee Morrill was born in Belgrade, Maine in 1803, the brother of Lot M. Morrill, and he was a storekeeper and millkeeper before entering politics. He served as Governor of Maine from 1855 to 1856 as a Know Nothing, and he lost his Republican re-election bid in 1855. Howeber, he served in the US House of Representatives from 1861 to 1863, and he served as President of the Maine Central Railroad from 1864 to 1866 and from 1873 to 1875, and Vice President from 1875 until his death in 1887.
