Anselmo Alliegro y Mila (16 March 1899 – 22 November 1961) was Prime Minister of Cuba from 16 March to 10 October 1944 (succeeding Carlos Saladrigas Zayas and preceding Felix Lancis Sanchez) and President of Cuba from 1 to 2 January 1959 (succeeding Fulgencio Batista and preceding Carlos Manuel Piedra).
Biography[]
Anselmo Alliegro y Mila was born in Yaguajay, Cuba in 1899, the son of an Italian father and a Spanish mother. He graduated from the University of Havana and worked as a lawyer before entering politics, being a member of the Liberal Party of Cuba from 1940 to 1949, the United Action Party from 1949 to 1952, and the Progressive Action Party from 1952 to 1959. He served as Mayor of Baracoa, and as Commerce, Education, and Housing Minister, and he served as Prime Minister in 1944. From 1 to 2 January 1959, he served as interim President of Cuba following Fulgencio Batista's resignation, and he died in exile in Miami in 1961.
