
Ansel Means (23 May 1749 – 15 November 1776) was the colonel of the King's Royal Regiment of New York during the American Revolutionary War.
Biography[]
Ansel Means was born on 23 May 1749 in Nanuet, Rockland County, New York. Means enlisted in the Tory King's Royal Regiment of New York and became its colonel during the American Revolutionary War, leading the regiment in the New York and New Jersey campaign of late 1776. Means was killed in action at the Battle of Metuchen on 15 November 1776 during the battle against the Patriots, one of the costliest battles for the Tories in the war.
