The Principality of Ansbach-Bayreuth (1398-1792) was a city-state of the Holy Roman Empire, located in Bavaria. Ansbach provided Hessians for the British during the American Revolutionary War, as their prince Karl Alexander I of Ansbach was an ally of George III of Britain. In 1791 the margravate was sold to Prussia.
