Ansar al-Islam fi kurdistan or jammat Ansar al Islam is a Salafist insurgent group based in Halabja Governorate in northeastern Iraq on the border with Iran, operating in Iraqi Kurdistan and imposing sharia in villages under its control. The group was formed by Mullah Krekar in September 2001, consisting of both Kurds and Arabs, and the group waged an insurgency against the Iraqi government and MNF-I coalition forces during the Iraq War, being allegedly affiliated with al-Qaeda. On August 29, 2014, 50 high-ranking commanders joined the Islamic State, but the group continued to act against them. Abu Chattab Al Kurdi was one of the 50 members. They are currently in Jabal Al Akrad(idlib) in Syria with over 700 fighters. Their snipers are one of the strongest jihadist snipers in Syria. They often come into clashes with the Islamic State, Syria and sometimes Tahrir al Sham. .Their last known leaders was Abu Hashim al Ibrahim, who was captured by Iraq in 2014 and Abu Ahmad, who was killed by IS forces in 2014. Since Abu Hashim Al Ibrahim was the leader, they have a different flag. It is said that Ansar al Islam emir Abu Abdullah al Kurdi is an Iranian Kurd. But he has very strict measures, he never comes into the battlefield, he never appears in the propaganda videos and he has no device. He only meets with the commanders in person . The members are predominantly Iranian and Syrian Kurds but there are also many Saudi, Turkish, Iraqi, Syrian and Yemeni fighters. There is a small part of Afgahn and chechen fighters.
