Annie Ewing (born 1985) was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 2020, succeeding Edith Stanhope.
Biography[]
Annie Ewing was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, England in 1985, and she worked as a teacher before entering politics with the Labour Party. She was elected to Parliament in 2019 as the leader of the Labour Party, and, while she was twice unable to win the premiership, she defeated the Conservative Party incumbent Edith Stanhope in the premiership contest of early 2020, defeating her 14-11.
Under Ewing, the Parliament voted 19-3 in favor of a school bus tax, 19-1 in favor of public libraries, and 21-1 in favor of free public education. Late in Ewing's term, the economy began to decline due to untenable government spending. In the early 2021 elections, the Conservatives were reduced to 18.93% and 6 seats, Labour rose to 17.42% and 5 seats, the SNP rose to 14.44% and 4 seats, the Lib Dems shrunk to 12.66% and 4 seats, the GPEW rose to 12.48% and 4 seats, the Independent Group rose to 10.46% and 3 seats, UKIP rose to 9.56% and 3 seats, and Plaid Cymru rose to 4.06% and 1 seat. In the ensuing premiership election, Ewing was re-elected with 15 votes to Stanhope's 13, winning the support of the GPEW, SNP, and Lib Dems.
