Anne Neville

Anne Neville (11 June 1456 – 16 March 1485) was Queen consort of England from 26 June 1483 to 16 March 1485 as the wife of Richard III of England.

Biography[]

Anne Neville was born in Warwick Castle, Warwickshire, England on 11 June 1456, the daughter of Richard Neville, 16th Earl of Warwick and Anne Beauchamp. Her father Warwick betrothed her as a girl to Edward of Westminster, Prince of Wales, the son of Henry VI of England. The marriage was to seal an alliance to the House of Lancaster and halt the civil war between the Lancastrians and Yorkists. Her father and Edward were both killed in battle in 1471; her father at the Battle of Barnet, her husband at the Battle of Tewkesbury. The Dowager Princess of Wales was then seduced by the Yorkist Richard, Duke of Gloucester, the brother of Edward IV of England and George Plantagenet, 1st Duke of Clarence, and they married. She became queen when Richard ascended the throne in June 1483, and she predeceased her husband by five months.
