Princess Anne

Anne, Princess Royal (born 15 August 1950) was the second child and only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

Biography[]

Anne Windsor was born in London, England on 15 August 1950, the second child and only daughter of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. She graduated from Benenden School in 1968, and, in 1970, she dated Andrew Parker Bowles, who would go on to become the first husband of Camila Shand, who later married Anne's brother Prince Charles. In 1971, Anne won the European Eventing Championship at Burghley, distinguishing herself as an equestrian. On 29 May 1973, she became engaged to British Army lieutenant Mark Phillips, and they married on 14 November. On 20 March 1974, Ian Ball attempted to kidnap Princess Anne on the Mall, but Ball was subdued and arrested before he could force Anne to exit her car. In 1989, Anne separated from her first husband, divorcing in 1992; on 12 December 1992, she remarried to Royal Navy commander Timothy Laurence, whom she had been dating since 1989. She devoted herself to charitable causes, becoming a patron of over 200 organizations. In 2012, she was appointed Admiral and Chief Commandant of Women in the Royal Navy.
