Ann Willing Bingham (1 August 1764-11 May 1801) was an American socialite from Philadelphia.
Biography[]
Ann Willing Bingham was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1764, the daughter of Thomas Willing and the niece of Elizabeth Willing Powel. She married William Bingham, and she traveled to Paris with her husband and corresponded with Thomas Jefferson. Bingham, well-educated and opinionated, convinced Thomas Jefferson and James Madison of a need for a Bill of Rights to guarantee individual freedoms not included in the US Constitution; however, she was also a great admirer of George Washington and was married to a Federalist. She died in 1801.
