
Angus Wilton McLean (20 April 1870-21 June 1935) was the Democratic Governor of North Carolina from 14 January 1925 to 11 January 1929, succeeding Cameron A. Morrison and preceding Oliver Max Gardner.
Biography[]
Angus Wilton McLean was born in Maxton, North Carolina in 1870, and he became a lawyer in 1892 and quickly became involved in Democratic politics. He supported the progressive Woodrow Wilson and served on the War Finance Corporation board from 1918 to 1922 and as assistant Secretary of the Treasury from 1920 to 1921. He later served as Governor from 1925 to 1929, supporting environmental conservation and a balanced budget. He died in Washington DC in 1935.
