Angelo Garepe (1931-2004) was consigliere of the Lupertazzi crime family under Carmine Lupertazzi Sr., serving for decades. He was murdered during a power struggle within the family in 2004.
Biography[]
Angelo Garepe was born in New York City, New York in 1931 to a family of Italian descent. He became consigliere to crime boss Carmine Lupertazzi Sr. during the 1950s, but he was incarcerated during a wave of arrests against the Lupertazzi crime family during the 1980s, having been convicted for his involvement in an illicit construction project in Yonkers. During his time in prison, he befriended DiMeo crime family member Tony Blundetto, the cousin of boss Tony Soprano. In 2004, the two of them were released from prison, and Garepe took Carmine Lupertazzi Jr.'s side during the mob war, despite officially being retired. Garepe used the help of his old friend Blundetto to whack Johnny Sacrimoni's hitman Joseph Peparelli in revenge for Peparelli's role in killing Lupertazzi's loyalists Lorraine Calluzzo and Jason Evanina. In revenge, Sacrimoni decided to sanction a hit on Garepe.
Death[]
One night, Garepe's car was stopped under a bridge when a car carrying the Leotardo brothers Phil and Billy swerved in front of him to stop him. Garepe exited the car and asked what was going on, and the brothers told him that Sacrimoni wanted to talk to him. Garepe told them that he would see him tomorrow, as it was getting late, but the two brothers convinced him to come with them. Garepe walked back to his car to follow the brothers, but Billy Leotardo garroted him and dragged him towards the trunk of their car. The Leotardo brothers threw him in the trunk and covered the upper parts of his body with plastic; Phil Leotardo then proceeded to shoot him with a silenced pistol, killing him. Garepe's death was a major blow to Lupertazzi's cause.
