Angela Borgia Lanzol

Angela Borgia (1486-1522) was the cousin and lady-in-waiting of Lucrezia Borgia.

Biography[]

Angela Borgia was the illegitimate daughter of Guillem Ramon de Borja and Isabel de Montcada, and she was a niece of Pope Alexander VI and a member of the House of Borgia. In her youth, she lived in Rome alongside her cousin Lucrezia Borgia, who she served as a lady-in-waiting; Angela and her cousin Hieronyma Borgia were presented to Lucrezia by their relative Juan Borgia Lanzol in 1496. She was an absolutely trustworthy friend to Lucrezia, and she attracted the brothers Ippolito d'Este and Giulio d'Este during Lucrezia and Angela's stay in the Duchy of Ferrara (Lucrezia was married to Duke Alfonso d'Este). Angela preferred Giulio, leading to a rivalry between the two brothers that led to them both being imprisoned. Angela died in 1522 in Sassuolo, Italy.
