Andrey Zelentsov (3 November 1896-15 August 1941) was a Major-General of the Soviet Red Army during World War II. He commanded the Arkhangelsk Military District during the Continuation War with Finland, and he was killed in action in August 1941.
Biography[]
Andrey Ivanovich Zelentsov was born on 3 November 1896 in Nizhny Novgorod, Russian Empire, and he graduated from the Alekseevskogo Military Academy in 1915. Zelentsov served in the Imperial Russian Army during World War I, and he would serve in the Russian Civil War in Ukraine as a Red Army soldier. In August 1939, he was given command of the Soviet 163rd Infantry Division under the Leningrad Military District, and his division was encircled by the Finnish Army at the Battle of Suomussalmi during the Winter War in December 1939. In June 1940, he took command of the Soviet 88th Infantry Division in Karelia and then the Arkhangelsk Military District, and he was killed during the bombing of Louhi on 15 August 1941.
