Andrey Nikolaevich Paliy (13 February 1971-19 March 2022) was a Russian Navy captain who served as deputy commander of the Black Sea Fleet. He was killed in action at the Siege of Mariupol during the Russo-Ukrainian War.
Biography[]
Andrey Nikolaevich Paliy was born in Kyiv, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union in 1971, and he came from a family of hereditary Soviet soldiers. He graduated from the Kyiv Higher Naval Political School in 1992, and, in 1993, he refused to take the Ukrainian military oath during his service in the National Guard of Ukraine, leading to him transferring to the Russian Navy. He rose in the ranks of the Black Sea Fleet, and he became deputy commander of the Russian Armed Forces in Syria in 2020, as well as deputy commander of the Black Sea Fleet. On 19 March 2022, he was killed in action at the Siege of Mariupol during the Russo-Ukrainian War.
