Andrey Belousov

Andrey Belousov (17 March 1959-) was First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia from 21 January 2020 to 12 May 2024 (succeeding Anton Siluanov and preceding Denis Manturov) and Minister of Defense from 12 May 2024 (succeeding Sergey Shoygu).

Biography[]

Andrey Belousov was born in Moscow, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union in 1959, and he worked as a researcher at the Central Economic Mathematical Institute during the 1980s before heading the Institute of Economic Forecasting at the Russian Academy of Science. He rose to be Minister of Economic Development from 2012 to 2013, Presidential Economic Assistant from 2013 to 2020, and First Deputy Prime Minister in 2020, briefly acting as prime minister from 30 April to 19 May 2020 while Mikhail Mishustin was sick with COVID-19. On 12 May 2024, President Vladimir Putin proposed to the State Duma that Belousov replace Sergey Shoygu as Defense Minister.
