Andrew Turner (born 24 October 1953) was a British MP for the Isle of Wight from 7 June 2001 to 3 May 2017, succeeding Peter Brand and preceding Bob Seely.
Biography[]
Andrew Turner was born in Coventry, Warwickshire, England on 24 October 1953. He was educated at Rugby School and Keble College, Oxford, and he became an economics teacher and an education adviser to the Conservative Party. He stood as the Conservative candidate for both the Hackney South and Shoreditch constituency in the 1992 general election and the Birmingham East constituency during the 1994 European Parliament election, but he won election to Parliament in 2001 as the MP from the Isle of Wight. Turner campaigned to ensure that the Isle of Wight remained one constituency, and he was also known for his extravagant lifestyle and homophobia. In 2017, he announced that he would not stand for re-election in the United Kingdom general election, 2017 after it was reported that he told schoolchildren that homosexuality was wrong and a danger to society.
