Andrew Stein

Andrew Stein (4 March 1945-) was the Democratic Borough President of Manhattan from 1 January 1978 to 31 December 1985, succeeding Percy Sutton and preceding David Dinkins.

Biography[]

Andrew J. Finkelstein was born in New York City in 1945, and he attended Southampton College before serving as a Democratic member of the New York State Assembly from 1969 to 1977, as Borough President of Manhattan from 1978 to 1985, and as President of the City Council from 1986 to 1994. In 1993, he attempted to run for Mayor with the support of the Republican Party and the Conservative Party of New York State, but he failed to win their support and lost to David Dinkins. Stein went on to work as a business consultant and retire from public life; he also dated Ann Coulter from 2007 to 2008. On 23 June 2019, he published an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal stating that Trump deserved a second term due to his revival of the stagnating US economy, but advising that he should run for re-election with Nikki Haley - and not the incumbent Vice President Mike Pence - as his running mate in order to win over moderate suburban women who had overwhelmingly voted Democrat in the 2018 midterm elections. On 21 August 2019, Haley dispelled all rumors that Trump would choose her as his running mate, saying that she was good friends with Pence, and Trump also said that he was 100% certain that Pence would remain his running mate.
