Andrew Scherler (1935-2014) was a CIA special agent who led a Black Ops team during the Cold War. In 1969, he led his team in Operation Violent Winds, a raid against a Soviet power station. The operation failed due to heavy Soviet resistance, and Scherler was evacuated on a helicopter with the surviving operatives. Scherler returned home, and the CIA claimed that he had been taking a vacation, covering up his involvement in the operation. He eventually died of natural causes at his Missouri home in 2014.
