Andrew Moore (1752-14 April 1821) was a member of the US House of Representatives from Virginia's 3rd district from 4 March 1789 to 3 March 1793 (preceding Joseph Neville), from the 2nd district from 4 March 1793 to 4 March 1797 (succeeding John Brown and preceding David Holmes), and from the 5th district from 5 March to 11 August 1804 (succeeding Thomas Lewis, Jr. and preceding Alexander Wilson). He also served in the US Senate from 11 August to 4 December 1804 (succeeding Wilson C. Nicholas and preceding William Branch Giles), and again from 4 December 1804 to 4 March 1809 (succeeding Giles and preceding Richard Brent). He was a Democratic-Republican.
Biography[]
Andrew Moore was born in Rockbridge County, Virginia in 1752, and he became a lawyer in 1774. He rose to the rank of Captain in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, seeing action at the Battles of Saratoga. He served as a Major-General in the Virginia militia until 1803, and he oversaw Virginia's ratification of the US Constitution in 1788. Moore proceeded to serve in the state legislature from 1789 to 1791 and from 1799 to 1800, while he served in the US House of Representatives from 1789 to 1797 and in 1804 and in the US Senate from 1804 to 1809. He died in 1821.
