Andrew James McShane (2 January 1865-17 April 1936) was the Democratic Mayor of New Orleans from 1920 to 1925, interrupting Martin Behrman's terms.
Biography[]
Andrew James McShane was born in New Orleans to an Irish Catholic family. He became a traveling salesman before founding his own hide business at the age of 21. McShane became a member of the reformist faction of the Democratic Party, serving as Mayor from 1920 to 1925. However, his political inexperience proved detrimental to his efficiency and popularity, and Martin Behrman soundly defeated McShane for re-election in 1925; the "Old Regulars" would maintain control of city politics until 1946.
