Andrew Gillum

Andrew Gillum (born 26 July 1979) was Mayor of Tallahassee, Florida (D) from 21 November 2014 to 19 November 2018, succeeding John Marks and preceding John E. Dailey.

Biography[]

Andrew Gillum was born in Miami, Florida in 1979, and he was raised in Gainesville. He served on the Tallahasse City Commission from 2003 to 2014 and as Mayor of Tallahassee from 2014 to 2019, and he was classified as a progressive Democrat in the mold of US Senator Bernie Sanders. In 2018, he ran for Governor of Florida as the Democratic nominee, facing the Republican candidate Ron DeSantis. He narrowly lost the gubernatorial election to DeSantis. After losing the race, he struggled with alcohol and crystal meth, and, in March 2020, he and two other men (including an unconscious male escort) were found to have been doing meth in a Miami Beach hotel room. On 14 September 2020, he came out as bisexual.
