Andrew DeWitt Bruyn

Andrew DeWitt Bruyn (18 November 1790-27 July 1838) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-NY 22) from 4 March 1837 to 27 July 1838, succeeding Stephen B. Leonard and preceding Cyrus Beers.

Biography[]

Andrew DeWitt Bruyn was born in Wawarsing, New York in 1790, the son of Jacobus S. Bruyn. He came from a distinguished family of Dutch descent, and he became a lawyer in Ithaca in 1814 and served as a justice of the peace in 1817, surrogate of Tompkins County from 1817 to 1821, in the State Assembly in 1818, as treasurer of Ithaca from 1826 to 1828, on the Court of Common Pleas from 1826 to 1836, and in the US House of Representatives from 1837 until his death in 1838.
