Biography[]

Andres Cordova was born in Canton Canar, Ecuador in 1892, a cousin of Gonzalo Cordova. He became a jurist, professor, and social democratic politician, and he assumed the presidency in 1939 on Carlos Alberto Arroyo del Rio's resignation. He governed for eight months and contended with a near-bankrupt economy. Congress eventually handed over power to Julio Enrique Moreno, and Cordova became a deputy to the National Constituent Assembly in 1967 and died in 1983.
