Andrei Lysenko was the Soviet Ambassador to the United States during the 1980s. In 1984, Premier Konstantin Chernenko ordered Lysenko to communicate to the United States that Marko Ramius, captain of the nuclear submarine Red October, was a rogue agent whose submarine must be destroyed. However, the CIA discovered that Ramius actually intended to defect, and they rescued him and granted him amnesty rather than kill him.
