
Andreas Hofer (22 November 1767-20 February 1810) was a general of the Austrian Empire. Hofer was a Tyrolean innkeeper and patriot whose rebellion against France in 1809 led to the Fifth Coalition against France. He was executed in 1810.
Biography[]
Hofer was originally a Tyrolean innkeeper who fought in the Third Coalition under the Austrian Empire, and Franz I of Austria assisted an anti-Bavarian rebellion in 1809. He was defeated after Archduke Charles was defeated at the Second Battle of Wagram in 1809 and he was captured. Hofer was executed by firing squad against Napoleon's orders.
