Andre de Brancas

Andre de Brancas (died 24 July 1595) was an admiral of the Kingdom of France.

Biography[]

Andre de Brancas was born in Villars, Vaucluse in the Provence region of southern France. He fought for the French Catholic League and the Spanish Empire in hopes of establishing an independent Normandy, and he did not surrender to France until 1594. On 23 August 1594, he became an admiral of France, and in 1595 he was killed in the Siege of Doullens when Spain massacred the city's population in revenge for the French massacre of Spanish troops at Ham earlier that year.
