Bishop in his car with his driver and two girls
Andre Baptiste was the son of President Andre Baptiste, Sr., a Liberian general who was of American-Liberian descent. The younger Andre Baptiste was raised by a cruel father who was known for human rights abuses, including amputation of his opponents' limbs, and the younger Andre followed in his father's footsteps. He grew up spoiled, with the people fearing him. He drove in expensive cars, often accompanied by prostitutes. Bishop had a gold-plated AK-47 that he owned, and he would later get "the gun of Rambo" in 2001 from the arms dealer Yuri Orlov, who did business with his father. The younger Baptiste gave Yuri a "two-star hotel" to stay at with two prostitutes when he first arrived.
In 2001, Baptiste, Yuri Orlov, and Yuri's brother Vitaly headed to neighboring Sierra Leone to sell some weapons to the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) rebels. However, Vitaly had remorse after seeing a woman and her baby being hacked to death by men with machetes and witnessing the rebels' preparations to massacre a camp of refugees, and he headed to the supply trucks and took grenades from a box. Baptiste tried to stop him, but Vitaly blew up one of the trucks with the grenade, creating a large explosion that killed Baptiste.
