'Anaxagoras of Lysimachia (356 BC-323 BC) was a general of Alexander the Great and the Macedonian Empire, and Alexander's adoptive son (although they were the same age). Anaxagoras was made Governor of Byzantium by Alexander, and stayed in Byzantium as Alexander was campaigning on the front lines. When Alexander died, Cassander had Anaxagoras tried for teason against the provisional government. Anaxagoras was killed by beheading, as were the rest of Alexander's family.
