Anatoly Kulikov

Anatoly Sergeyevich Kulikov (4 September 1946-) was the Internal Affairs Minister of Russia from 6 July 1995 to 25 March 1998, succeeding Viktor Yerin and preceding Sergei Stepashin.

Biography[]

Anatoly Sergeyevich Kulikov was born in Aigursky, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union in 1946, and he joined the Soviet Army in 1966. He graduated from the Frunze Military Academy in 1974, and he became a Major-General in 1988. From 1990 to 1992, he commanded the Interior Ministry troops in the North Caucasus, and, from 1992 to 1995, he served as Deputy Internal Affairs Minister of Russia, before serving as Internal Affairs Minister from 1995 to 1998. Mityukhin commanded Russian forces during the First Chechen War, and the Russian defeat during the war led to his sacking in 1998. In 1999 and 2003, he was elected to the State Duma as a member of United Russia.
