Anas al-Kandari (1981-28 October 2002) was a Kuwaiti member of al-Qaeda who carried out the Failaka Island attack in 2002.
Biography[]
Anas al-Kandari was born in Salwa, Kuwait in 1981 to a family of Sunni Muslim Arabs, and his father was a millionaire in Kuwait's unofficial stock exchange before the stock bubble burst and he lost all of his money. In 2000, he went to Afghanistan with Mohammed Jabarah and joined al-Qaeda there, receiving training as a terrorist. In 2002, al-Kandari and Jassem al-Hajiri fasted after hearing about some Palestinian deaths in the Second Intifada, and on 28 October 2002 the two of them ambushed the US Marine Corps on Failaka Island in Kuwait. They killed Lance Corporal Antonio J. Sledd before the two of them were killed by US soldiers.
