
Anas Sarwar (14 March 1983-) was the Labour MP for Glasgow Central from 6 May 2010 to 30 March 2015 (succeeding Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar and preceding Alison Thewliss) and an MSP for Glasgow from 5 May 2016.
Biography[]
Anas Sarwar was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1983, the son of Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar. He worked as an NHS dentist in Paisley before becoming active in the Labour Party and following in his father's footsteps as a Labour MP from 2010 to 2015; he was elected to the Scottish Parliament in 2016. Sarwar became leader of the Scottish Labour Party in 2021, and he clashed with Labour leader Keir Starmer over Starmer's willingness to allow pro-independence candidates to run for Parliament under the Labour banner.
