Anarcho-liberalism is a political philosophy that advocates the elimination of the state in favor of individual sovereignty, private property, and free markets. Law enforcement, courts, and other security services would be operated by privately funded competitors rather than taxation, and capitalism would be allowed to flourish without the intervention of any government. Anarcho-liberalism is closer to libertarianism than it is to left-wing anarchism, as it seeks to create a free capitalism rather than regulate it. During the 19th century, anarcho-liberals advocated the end of the state as an entity and the free and equal existence of all men, unflinchingly supporting the most liberal of all positions. The ideology began to rise after the Spring of Nations upheaval of 1848, but it did not play a major role in establishment politics, as it rejected opposing reforms due to their liberal views, while it rejected supporting reforms, as this would legitimzie the establishment. Nevertheless, several anarcho-liberal parties were formed during the second half of the 19th century. Most anarcho-liberal parties would become affiliated with liberalism, libertarianism, and left-wing radicalism during the 20th century.
