The Anacostia River is a river which flows from Prince George's County in Maryland into Washington DC, where it empties into the Potomac River. Its name is derived from "Nacotchtank", a settlement of the Anacostan Native Americans on the riverbanks. It was called DC's forgotten river due to heavy pollution and weak investment and development along its banks.
