Amyntas III of Macedon (died 370 BC) was King of Macedon in 393 BC (succeeding Pausanias and preceding Argaeus II) and from 392 to 370 BC (succeeding Argaeus and preceding Alexander II).
Biography[]
Amyntas was the son of Arrhidaeus and the great-grandson of Alexander I of Macedon, and he came to a throne after a six-year interregnum which followed the death of King Archelaus I of Macedon in 399 BC. However, his reign was still plagued by constant war. In 393 BC, he was driven out by the Dardani Illyrians, but he returned the following year with help from the Thessalians. He later fought against the Chalcidian League to the south, but Macedon managed to come out on top of both of the conflicts and retain economic and political hegemony in Macedonia.
