Amos Nourse (17 December 1794 – 7 April 1877) was a US Senator from Maine (R) from 16 January to 3 March 1857, interrupting Hannibal Hamlin.
Biography[]
Amos Nourse was born in Bolton, Massachusetts in 1794, and he moved to Bath, Maine in 1845. He worked as a customs collector and a medician, and he was also a professor at Bowdoin College. He briefly served in the US Senate for less than two months in 1857 as a Republican, and his predecessor Hannibal Hamlin returned to office after a brief period of resignation. Nourse died in 1877.
