Ammand the Corsair (born c. 1705) was a leader of the Barbary Corsairs and the "Pirate Lord" of the Black Sea.
Biography[]
Ammand was born circa 1705 in North Africa, and he became a leader of the Barbary Corsairs. Ammand and his pirates targeted Christian ships in the Black Sea and occasionally the Adriatic Sea, earning the scorn of fellow pirate Eduardo Villanueva. Ammand captained Seref and emerged as one of the most feared pirates, becoming a "pirate lord". Great Britain would issue a bounty of 4,400 guineas for him, as he had assaulted the church, stolen church property, assaulted a nun, and engaged in piracy. Ammand would take part in the fight against the East India Company in 1747, and he would continue piracy after the Royal Navy armada was forced to retreat.
