
Amir Hatami (1965-) was Minister of Defense of Iran from 20 August 2017 to 25 August 2021, succeeding Hossein Dehghan and preceding Mohammad-Reza Gharaei Ashtiani.
Biography[]
Amir Hatami was born in Zanjan, Iran in 1965, and he was raised in a religious Shia family and served in the Iranian Army during the Iran-Iraq War. Hatami fought in Operation Mersad, the final battle of the war, and he came to head the Army's international relations office and as deputy chief of staff of the armed forces. In 2017, Hatami became Minister of Defense under President Hassan Rouhani, serving until 2021.
