Biography[]

Amin Radi was born on 12 June 1967 in Elemtaih, Daraa Governorate, Syria to a Sunni Muslim Arab family. Radi volunteered to fight with the Mujahideen in the Soviet-Afghan War in 1985, and he took part in the guerrilla war against the Soviet Union in Afghanistan alongside several other holy warriors. Radi met Fikri Kaba while fighting in the war, and Kaba recruited him into al-Qaeda in 1988 with the goal of spreading the group back to Syria and the rest of the Levant. Radi became the group's recruiter in Syria, and Radi maintained contact with Kaba, who had a line of contacts that went back to Osama bin Laden himself. Radi helped to build a network of foreign fighters in Syria, and al-Qaeda in Iraq's ranks would be swelled during the 2003-2011 Iraq War as a result. Radi headed to Iraq to fight against the United States, and he was killed in a drone strike in Fallujah on 5 October 2009.
