Amenhotep III

Amenhotep III (died 1352 BC) was Pharaoh of Egypt from 1390 to 1352 BC, succeeding Thutmose IV and preceding Akhenaten.

Biography[]

Amenhotep III was the son of Pharaoh Thutmose IV and Mutemwiya, and he succeeded his father in 1390 BC. Amenhotep killed over a hundred lions during the first decade of his reign, and he further distinguished his martial prowess with a campaign against Kush in 1385 BC. He presided over a reign of unprecedented prosperity and splendor, and Egypt reached the peak of its artistic and international power as new palaces were built and festivals were held, and Egypt was mostly at peace. He suffered from arthritis in his later years and became obese, and he died in 1352 BC.
