Ambrosius Aurelianus (384-446), also known as Emrys I, was Duke of Hwicce from 418 to 446, succeeding Ieliyn and preceding Uther Pendragon.
Biography[]
Ambrosius Aurelianus was born in 384 AD, the son of Flavius Claudius Constantinus, the grandson of Western Roman emperor and usurper Magnus Maximus; he was also the brother of Constans II and King Ieliyn of Hwicce. His father Flavius and brother Constans II were killed in battle in Gaul in 411, but, under Ambrosius - who succeeded Ieliyn in 418 - the Romano-British regained their strength. Ambrosius fought against Saxon pirate raids and, later, en masse migration, during the chaotic era of sub-Roman Britain. King Vortigern ruled in fear of Ambrosius, his kinsman, and Ambrosius ultimately slew him at his castle. In 446, however, Ambrosius was poisoned by an assassin in a murder prophesied by Merlin after watching a shooting star; this star represented the future successes that his son Uther Pendragon would enjoy.

Ambrosius in 475
ccording to Derfel Cadarn's Warlord Chronicles, Ambrosius Aurelianus was born on 28 August 430 and died in 475 and was the son of another Ambrosius, who served as the commander of the Roman Army in Maxima Caesariensis immediately before the end of Roman rule in Britain. This elder Ambrosius remained in Britannia after the Roman withdrawal and took a Celtic wife, reigning as King of Glevum and fathering Ambrosius Aurelianus in 430. The younger Ambrosius Aurelianus succeeded his father in 442, slew Vortigern in 450, and assumed the title of "High King of Britannia" in 460, reigning until his death in 475.
