Ambrose Ranney

Ambrose Arnold Ranney (17 April 1821-5 March 1899) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-MA 3) from 4 March 1881 to 3 March 1887, succeeding Walbridge A. Field and preceding Leopold Morse.

Biography[]

Ambrose Ranney was born in Townshend, Vermont in 1821, a son of Waitstill R. Ranney. He practiced law in Boston, Massachusetts before serving on the corporation council from 1855 to 1857, in the state house in 1857 and from 1863 to 1864, and in the US House of Representatives from 1881 to 1887. Ranney supported women's suffrage during his time in office.
