Amaru (died 2019) was a Bolivian communist revolutionary and the chief ideologue behind the Maoist Kataris 26 resistance movement.
Biography[]
Amaru was born in Itacua, Bolivia to an Aimara family; he was the uncle of Pac Katari. Amaru worked as a cocalero (coca farmer) for years, and he became involved with communist politics and efforts to politically mobilize Bolivia's indigenous peasantry. In 2013, he founded the Maoist Kataris 26 revolutionary movement with the help of his nephew. While Pac Katari served as the movement's de facto leader and military commander, Amaru's Maoist ideas served as the group's guiding principles during its struggle against the Santa Blanca Cartel and La Unidad. In 2019, he was captured and tortured by the cartel, but he was rescued from the Atollo Farm by American Ghost Recon operatives, despite his initial opposition to his nephew working with the Americans. Later that year, he was betrayed and killed by his nephew after he split with Pac Katari over Katari's decision to turn on the Americans and liberate Bolivia by himself.
