Amal Hammed (died 2015) was a Palestinian widow and Hamas suicide bomber who carried out the Saint Bernard nightclub bombing.
Biography[]
Amal Hammed was born in Safwad, West Bank, and she was close to the Hammed family from a young age. In 2015, she planned to marry Bashir Hammed, the brother of the arch-terrorist Taufiq Hammed, whom she had known for years. However, Israeli agents crashed their wedding, hoping to assassinate Taufiq once he came out of hiding; instead, they killed Amjad Abu Khalef and Bashir once they were detected, causing Amal to grow disillusioned with life and desire vengeance. Even though her mother-in-law Umm Taufiq and sister-in-law Nassrin refused to admit that Taufiq was still alive, Amal persuaded Walid al-Abed to arrange a meeting between her and Taufiq, threatening to approach Saraya al-Quds or commit a stabbing attack at an Israeli checkpoint unless she could become a shahid. Walid relayed her willingness to Taufiq, who decided that she should remotely detonate a bomb at a nightclub whose name was on a pack of matches dropped by one of the Israeli assassins. When the time came for the attack, Amal entered the club and sent the signal for her getaway driver Khaled al-Yahudi to start the timer on her handbag bomb by ordering a Diet Coke from the bartender. However, Amal refused to leave the pub, and she was killed in the ensuing explosion.
