
Amadou Sanogo (1972-) was the military ruler of Mali from 22 March to 12 April 2012, succeeding Amadou Toumani Toure and preceding Dioncounda Traore.
Biography[]
Amadou Sanogo was born in Segou, Mali in 1972, and he joined the Malian Army and received training from the United States, including at Quantico. In 2012, he led the 2012 Malian coup d'etat against President Amadou Toumani Toure, and he briefly served as the country's military ruler from March to April, when Dioncounda Traore was installed as the country's interim President. Sanogo later campaigned against religious extremism amid the Malian Civil War and was promoted under President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, only to be arrested on 27 November 2013 for arresting military and political rivals.
