Alwyn Lloyd

Alwyn "Welsh" Lloyd (1867-1911) was a Welsh immigrant career criminal who lived in Armadillo, New Mexico amid the "Wild West" era.

Biography[]

Alwyn Lloyd was born in Wales, United Kingdom in 1867, and he became a member of a gang of thieves which included Leander Holland and the Irish immigrant outlaw known only as "Irish"; "Irish" later fabricated a story that the three men met while on the "boat" to the United States, although Holland - whom he called "French" - was native-born. The trio fell out in 1911, when Holland and Lloyd attempted to drown "Irish" in an Armadillo, New Mexico livery yard for stealing their horses. "Irish" claimed to be innocent and that "French" had stolen the horses, but the argument was interrupted by the arrival of the gunslinger John Marston, who sought out Irish in order to obtain a Gatling gun for the law's assault on Fort Mercer. Holland and Lloyd grew hostile towards him after a brief confrontation, and, when the two men drew guns, Marston proceeded to shoot them both dead.
