Alwin Wolz (22 September 1897-15 September 1978) was a Major-General of the Luftwaffe of Nazi Germany during World War II.
Biography[]
Alwin Wolz was born on 22 September 1897 in Windsfeld (Dittenheim) in the Weissenburg-Gunzenhausen district of the Kingdom of Bavaria in the German Empire (present-day Germany). Wolz joined the Reichswehr in 1915 and served in World War I, gaining the Iron Cross and Wound Badge. During World War II, he served in Nazi Germany's Luftwaffe air force in the Battle of France, North African Campaign, defense of the Reich, and the battle of Hamburg. Wolz took over the command of German forces in Hamburg in April 1945, but on 3 May 1945 he was forced to surrender to the British 7th Armored Division and was held prisoner until 1947. He died on 15 September 1978 in Vaterstetten, Bavaria.
