Alvis was a Rogalander skald from Fornburg, Norway who settled in Ravensthorpe, Northamptonshire during the late 9th century. The life partner of Holger, he taught the Viking warrior Eivor the art of writing poetry, and, in 872, he helped Eivor practice flyting on Eivor's return from Avaldsnes. He and Holger later accompanied Eivor and much of the rest of the Raven Clan in migrating to Mercia in 872-873 AD, settling in present-day Northamptonshire, where Alvis and Holger continued to serve as storytellers.
