Álvaro da Costa de Sousa Macedo, Earl of Madeira (1789-1835) was a general of the Portuguese Empire who fought in the Brazilian War of Independence.

Biography[]

Macedo was the commander of Portuguese troops in Cisplatina (Uruguay), and he fought in the Brazilian War of Independence against the Brazilian Empire. He was defeated at Montevideo, and he returned to Portugal soon after.
